And no loss of cargo space! Powering the RAV4 Prime is the same 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine found in the RAV4 Hybrid, in both cases making 176 hp (131 kW). However, the Prime uses a new high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack and booster converter, resulting in the 83 hp (62 kW) jump over the hybrid model.Since its launch as the world’s original recreational/lifestyle SUV in 1994, the RAV4 has consistently evolved to meet the changing needs and preferences of customers, with quality, style, performance and versatility that have secured its position as one of the world’s best-selling vehicles. Building on RAV4’s success as a pioneer of hybrid power among SUVs, Toyota is now ready to extend the benefits of the technology with the introduction of the new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, a new flagship vehicle for its hybrid line-up that promises to be not only more powerful but also more emissions and fuel-efficient than any other in its class. This first plug-in hybrid-electric version of the RAV4 draws on more than 20 years of Toyota leadership in hybrid powertrain technology. It will sit at the pinnacle of the fifth generation RAV4 range, a model that has reaffirmed its historic status as one of Europe’s most popular SUVs with more than 130,000 customer orders since its launch early in 2019, including more than 115,000 hybrids (Western Europe). The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid will offer customers a best-of-both-worlds solution. It features Toyota’s latest hybrid-electric vehicle technology, with higher power and better driving dynamics, and also has a genuine pure electric EV driving capability, free from concerns about driving range or the need to stop to recharge the battery. Performance and efficiency With the experience of developing two generations of its Prius Plug-in Hybrid model, Toyota is well-equipped to produce an effective new powertrain for the RAV4. With full system output of 306 DIN hp/225 kW*, it has the potential to deliver acceleration from rest to 100 km/h in just seconds*, outperforming any of its conventionally powered rivals. Moreover, it is also on course to deliver best-in-class CO2 emissions and fuel economy: Toyota’s pre-homologation, WLTP-standard data indicates CO2 output of less than 29 g/km*. These levels are unmatched by any current D-segment plug-in hybrid AWD SUV. The new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is constructed on Toyota’s GA-K platform, with added dynamic benefits achieved by locating the hybrid battery beneath the floor. It is also equipped as standard with the Toyota’s AWD-i intelligent electric all-wheel drive system. Toyota has harnessed the boost in performance electric power can deliver to achieve a significant increase in output compared to the standard RAV4 Hybrid. It has developed a new, high-capacity lithium-ion battery and added an enhanced boost converter to the hybrid system’s power control unit. The Hybrid Dynamic Force petrol engine is based on the unit featured in the regular RAV4 Hybrid, with improvements to meet the performance requirements of the plug-in hybrid system. The result is not just rapid off-the-line acceleration: the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid has a greater driving range in electric EV mode, with zero petrol consumption and exhaust emissions. With four driving modes available, the driver can switch seamlessly from hybrid to pure EV driving. This new EV mode enables the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid to cover more than 65 km* on electric power alone (battery charge and driving conditions permitting), further than any competitor plug-in hybrid SUV and beyond the 50 km average European daily commuting distance. Moreover, speeds up to 135 km/h can be reached without any intervention of the internal combustion engine, even under full acceleration. Intelligent hybrid battery packaging The compact dimensions of the lithium-ion battery allow it to be contained entirely beneath the vehicle floor. With minimal intrusion in the load space, cargo capacity is a generous 520 litres. The battery’s location low in the vehicle also helps give the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid a low centre of gravity, enhancing handling stability and ride comfort. High-efficiency heat pump air conditioning In its scrutiny of every detail that can contribute to the overall efficient performance of the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, Toyota adopted the heat pump air conditioning system it introduced as a world-first in the current, second generation Prius Plug-in Hybrid, adapting it specifically for use in the new SUV with a hot water circuit – the same as that used in the RAV4 Hybrid. In addition, the battery is cooled by the refrigerant of the air conditioning system. This system is far more efficient than engine heating or high-powered electric heaters, absorbing heat from the air outside the vehicle to warm the cabin. Refined Sport design Styling details for the exterior and the cabin demonstrate a more Refined Sport look for the mid-size SUV. At the front there is a dark plating for the dedicated grille mesh and frame and headlight extensions, together with a new metallic finish on the lower bumper moulding that emphasises the width and strength of the vehicle’s stance. New 18 and 19-inch wheel designs combine contrasting bright machined and grey or black finishes, while at the rear there is a metal-like finish for the garnish beneath the screen and black plating for the under-run. In the cabin the focus is on new upholstery designs with a sporty feel, with ribbed patterns with contrast red detailing. Quilted black leather seats will also be available with a striking red ribbon detail. The centre console features a nine-inch multimedia touchscreen display – the largest in any RAV4 model – for clear and easy control of the car’s entertainment, information and connectivity functions. Premium equipment specifications Equipment specifications reflect the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid’s flagship status. According to grade, features and options will include 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front and rear seats, a 230 V power outlet in the cabin, a bi-tone exterior paint finish, power tailgate with hands-free kick sensor, panoramic roof, head-up display, nine-inch display audio system and the latest Toyota multimedia package with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Sales schedule The new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid will be introduced during the second half of 2020, with on-sale dates to be determined according to country/market. * Provisional figures subject to final homologation Meet Toyota's Certified Used RAV4 Hybrid SUV. Bring tech, style and efficiency to all your adventures. With a pre-owned RAV4 Hybrid you get advanced innovations like Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive, great fuel economy, and Toyota's proven hybrid powertrain. Plus, the RAV4 Hybrid sparks adrenaline with 194 net horsepower and outstanding At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Toyota introduced its new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) RAV4 performance model with an estimated 302-horsepower, advanced all-wheel drive, sport-tuned suspension and exclusive design features. In addition to an ability to do 0-60 mph in a projected seconds—the second quickest acceleration time in the Toyota lineup—the 2021 RAV4 Prime has an estimated 39 miles of all-electric range—the highest AER of any PHEV SUV on the market. The RAV4 Prime also has a manufacturer-estimated 90 combined MPGe. The Toyota RAV4 Prime will come to market in summer 2020. As a technology comparison, the 2006-2012 RAV4 offered an optional 269-hp, gas V6 engine that reached 0-60 mph in half-second slower than the RAV4 Prime—and a 21 combined MPG fuel economy rating. The 2021 RAV4 Prime will be available in SE and XSE grades, both emphasizing athletic on-road performance and premium comfort and style. With its plug-in hybrid technology advancing, Toyota sees such vehicles as critical to an overall electrification strategy that will also include standard hybrids and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), along with fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) such as the second-generation Mirai unveiled in October. The Toyota RAV4 Prime builds on the RAV4 Hybrid. With more powerful motor-generators, a newly developed high-capacity Lithium-Ion battery and a booster converter, the 2021 RAV4 Prime yields an 83-horsepower (hp) jump in total system output over the RAV4 Hybrid and has the most horsepower in its segment. Toyota projects 0-60 mph acceleration in seconds which is quicker than the RAV4 Hybrid ( sec.) and in a league with luxury/performance SUVs that come nowhere near this Toyota’s fuel economy. Notably, the RAV4 Prime uses regular-grade gasoline. The RAV4 Prime uses a differently tuned version of the RAV4 Hybrid’s four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine. It produces the same projected 176 hp as in the hybrid, but paired with the electric motors, total system output equals 302 horsepower. The RAV4 Prime’s passenger space isn’t compromised by the larger Lithium-Ion battery, as it is mounted under the floor. The mounting position also gives the RAV4 Prime a low center of gravity and enhanced driving stability. The RAV4 Prime’s enhanced heat pump HVAC system, based on Prius Prime’s and tailored to fit RAV4 Prime, contributes to an increasing EV range, as energy consumption for cabin temperature control can significantly decrease EV driving range. The RAV4 Prime employs the same version of Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) as the RAV4 Hybrid. In both models, a separate rear-mounted electric motor powers the rear wheels when needed, including proactively on acceleration startup and also in reduced-traction conditions. The AWD system also reduces understeer during cornering for enhanced steering stability. Off-pavement, AWD enhances hill-climbing performance. A driver-selectable Trail mode makes it possible to get unstuck by braking a spinning wheel and sending torque to the grounding wheel. With available paddle shifters, the driver can “downshift” to increase the regenerative braking in steps, which fosters greater control when driving in hilly areas, for example. As on the RAV4 Hybrid, the innovative Predictive Efficient Drive feature acts like an invisible “hyper-miler” co-driver. Using the available navigation system, Predictive Efficient Drive essentially reads the road and learns driver patterns to optimize hybrid battery charging and discharging operations based on driving conditions. The system accumulates data as the vehicle is driven and “remembers” road features such as hills and stoplights and adjusts the hybrid powertrain operation to maximize efficiency. All Toyota RAV4 models come equipped with standard Toyota Safety Sense (TSS which groups a long roster of active-safety technologies and capabilities: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA) Automatic High Beam (AHB) Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) Road Sign Assist (RSA) The XSE Premium Package adds Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB) and Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automated Braking (PA w/AB). Starting with the 2020 model year, every Toyota Hybrid Battery Warranty has been increased from 8 years or 100,000 miles to 10 years from original date of first use, or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Francuski portal l’Argus przygotował recenzję Hondy CR-V Hybrid w porównaniu do Toyoty RAV4 Hybrid. The RAV4 Hybrid promises the comfort of a roomy interior and smooth ride with the practical benefits of large cargo space and impressive fuel Car typeElectric rangeFuel economyCO2 emissionsPlug-in hybrid46 miles282mpg22g/kmThe Toyota RAV4 opened the world’s eyes to the idea of a compact and urban-friendly SUV way back in 1994 – long before the Nissan Qashqai or Volkswagen Tiguan arrived in the UK. Since then, Toyota has sold almost 230,000 examples – with the latest, fifth-generation version on sale since 2019. To widen its appeal and prepare for a zero-emission future, Toyota has now launched the very first RAV4 Plug-In numbers – from price, through to power and performance – aren’t exactly what you'd expect from a Toyota. This is a family SUV with a petrol engine and an battery. It’s got 302bhp and a 0-62mph time of just six seconds. It’ll do 46 miles on electricity at speeds of up to 84mph and emits just 22g/km of CO2 – putting it in one of the very lowest company-car tax bands. Charge it regularly and Toyota says it’ll do 282mpg fuel economyThe catch? Prices start from around £46,500. But obviously there’s more to a car than how much it costs to buy. After all, most people will stick down a modest deposit, pay the fixed monthly PCP payment, and hand it back after three years. What’s important is whether this RAV4 plug-in hybrid can justify those figures, and whether it’s objectively a better car than a Ford Kuga or Peugeot 3008 – or even a Volvo answer, unfortunately, isn’t all that straightforward. It’s quiet, comfortable, and practical, comes loaded with kit, and offers the longest pure-electric range in the segment. But on the flip side, it’s faster than it has any need to be, isn’t much fun to drive, and is still plagued by a laggy and unresponsive infotainment system. Quality is fine, but perhaps not befitting of its sky-high price; premium rivals from BMW, Audi and Volvo cost a similar amount, but feel more luxurious the Toyota RAV4 plug-in may be a good car in its own right, that price is going to be a significant sticking point for many potential customers. While we’re maybe not comparing apples with apples, it’s hard to ignore the fact that you can get a Ford Kuga or Peugeot 3008 with a plug-in powertrain for £10,000 less; these models also come in under the £40,000 threshold for lower road tax. That said, if you can run one as a company car and charge on a regular basis, the Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid could be a really satisfying car to live with.
